Description

Carl Gustaf Grimberg (1875–1941) was a Swedish historian, writer, and publisher. A graduate of the University of Gothenburg and a professor at Uppsala University, he is remembered in his native country for his 9-volume history of Sweden, Svenska folkets underbara öden (“The Wondrous Destinies of the Swedish People”) and gained international fame for his 14-volume Världshistoria: Folkens liv och kultur (“World History: The Life and Culture of Peoples”), which has been translated into nearly a dozen languages.

A History of Sweden, first published in 1935, was Grimberg’s definitive testimony for American readers. It was compiled out of Grimberg’s many books and translated by C. W. Foss, a professor at Augustana College and Lutheran lay leader in Rock Island, Illinois, one of the centers of the Swedish-American community.

Freshly edited for the first time in nearly a century, this Arktos edition revives a classic primer for Americans and Europeans to recover their heritage and discover the rich history of the Swedish people.
